beyond abba

The books Frida Beyond ABBA and Agnetha Beyond ABBA chronologically describe the musical oeuvres of Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog, respectively, throughout their professional and non-professional careers as solo artists from the mid-1950s to the present day. From their stage debuts, their semi-professional and professional recordings, to their success with ABBA and the international solo-careers that followed, the books detail musicians, venues, songs, and their backstories.

Summary

The books Frida Beyond ABBA and Agnetha Beyond ABBA are the result of years of intensive work, brought about through research in various archives, new interviews and support of many people, including ABBA historian Carl Magnus Palm, author of books such as ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions.

Throughout the course of the research, over 50 extensive interviews have been conducted with people who worked closely with either Frida or Agnetha during different stages of their career, many talking about their collaboration with the singers for the first time. Furthermore, permission was granted for both books to listen to a large number of unreleased recordings, from both private and archive collections, which have never been heard by the general public. All the new insights, provided by the research, interviews and recordings are exclusively revealed in the books for the first time.

Though the books are mainly text based, plenty of illustrations – in the shape of single and album sleeves, vintage ads, newspaper and magazine clippings and photos from both professional agencies and private collections are included as well – some previously unpublished. The illustrations have been carefully selected so that they have relevance for the subject matter of the books: Frida’s and Agnetha’s work as professional artists.

In order to ensure the quality of both books, they were professionally designed by Grant Robinson and printed by an experienced book printer in the Netherlands with a respectable reputation. They are printed with a matte hardcover, 269 x 213 mm, clothbound; both covers and insides are printed in full colour, and the inside pages are on high-quality semi-gloss stock.
